What is cysteamine hydrochloride used for?

Cysteamine hydrochloride (Cysteamine HCL) is a pharmaceutical intermediate, which is used for cosmetics, drugs,feed additives and heavy metal ion complexing agent.

Cosmetics

Cysteamine hydrochloride (CA) is a chemical reducing agent commonly used in hair-waving, perming, and straightening treatments and other hair trimming cosmetics. Cysteamine hydrochloride can make hair relaxer and lash lift.

Compared with thioglycolic acid(TG), Cysteamine hydrochloride has a higher reducing effects. Thus it has a superior curling effect in hair curling.

In cosmetology, Cysteamine hydrochloride can reduce hyperpigmentation and melasma,which is used for intensive pigment corrector and cream to achieve topical skin-lightening treatment.

Drugs

Cysteamine hydrochloride is used in the manufacture of anti-ulcer drugs such as ranitidine, cimetidine, as well as cysteine tartrate. It is also an orphan drug for the treatment of cystinosis, diabetes mellitus and nephrosis.  

Feed additives

In feed additives, Cysteamine hydrochloride has significant effects in promoting growth, lactation, improving feed conversion efficiency, and enhancing carcass quality.

Biochemical reagents

Cysteamine hydrochloride is also one complexing agent for heavy metal ions. It is used for biochemical reagents.
